The secret of Venaria

The rebirth of the Reggia di Venaria is considered one of the greatest restorations of European cultural heritage of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Abandoned after the end of the monarchy and used for decades as a military barracks, the Reggia was in a state of severe deterioration.

Beginning in the 1990s, a colossal intervention of over 220 million euros involved hundreds of professionals including architects, restorers, art historians and craftsmen, restoring to the world one of the most imposing Baroque masterpieces ever built.

The royal apartments and the Galleria Grande

The visiting itinerary through the royal apartments is a journey through time that leads the visitor through sumptuously decorated halls, frescoes of rare beauty and furnishings that tell of centuries of Savoyard court life.

The beating heart of the Reggia is the Galleria Grande, designed by Filippo Juvarra between 1716 and 1721: a space more than 70 metres in length illuminated by large windows, with frescoed vaults and a natural light that changes with the hours of the day, creating ever-different and extraordinarily evocative atmospheres.

The Gardens of the Reggia: a landscape to discover

The Gardens of the Reggia di Venaria extend for almost 80 hectares and represent one of the most significant examples of Italian and French formal garden in Piedmont.

Restored with great philological care, the gardens are articulated in different sections, each with its own personality: from the Flower Gardens with their precise geometries and multicoloured flower beds, to the Bosco della Mandria that extends towards the adjacent natural park, offering kilometres of paths through the greenery.

Temporary exhibitions and cultural life

The Reggia di Venaria is not only a monument of the past, but a dynamic cultural centre always in evolution.

Its great halls and exhibition spaces host every year temporary exhibitions of international stature, ranging from painting to photography, from sculpture to contemporary art, bringing to Venaria works coming from the most important museums in the world.

These exhibitions integrate perfectly with the historical context, creating a fascinating dialogue between different eras and artistic languages.

The royal apartments and the Great Gallery

The Gardens of the Reggia: a landscape to be discovered

Temporary exhibitions and cultural life
